Tederic Benelux / Machine calculator
Size the machine, then ask for the quote
Five calculations, in the order an application engineer does them. Fill in what you know — the machine shortlist updates as you go, and you can send the whole calculation to us in one click.
Preset: 400 bar cavity pressure, melt density 0.73 g/cm³.
Clamping force
Projected area × cavity pressure, plus a safety margin. Projected area is the shadow of the part (and runner) on the parting line.
Preset per material; raise it for thin wall or long flow paths.
Shot size
Part plus runner, converted to volume and to a PS-equivalent shot weight so it can be compared with the brochure figures. Aim to use 30–70% of the barrel capacity.
Plasticising rate
Shot weight divided by cycle time gives the throughput the screw has to deliver. Compare it with the machine's plasticising capacity for your material.
Cooling time
Estimated with the standard plate formula using the thermal diffusivity of the material. It is an indication for the dominant wall thickness, not a substitute for mould flow analysis.
Residence time
How long the melt sits in the barrel. Too long degrades heat-sensitive materials; too short means an oversized shot on a small barrel. Enter the barrel capacity of the machine you are considering.
Method
What the calculator does
Clamping force
F [kN] = projected area [cm²] × cavity pressure [bar] ÷ 100, multiplied by the number of cavities and the safety margin. Cavity pressure defaults are material presets: 350–600 bar for commodity resins, higher for thin wall and filled grades.
Shot size
Shot weight = (part × cavities) + runner. Volume = weight ÷ melt density. The PS-equivalent figure lets you compare directly against the shot weights in the Tederic brochures, which are stated for polystyrene at 0.91 g/cm³.
Plasticising rate
Throughput [kg/h] = shot weight × 3 600 ÷ cycle time ÷ 1 000. Screws are sized so that dosing finishes well inside the cooling time.
Cooling time
t = (s² ÷ (π²·α)) × ln((8÷π²) × (Tmelt − Tmould) ÷ (Teject − Tmould)), with α the thermal diffusivity of the material and s the wall thickness.
